Wampum is made from the Quahog Clam Shell found in New England. Extremely hard, it was laboriously ground, drilled and polished into beads by American Indians, and had high ceremonial value. It became a means of valuation in trading, and was used as currency by early colonists.
This necklace reveals the lovely bands of rich purple in white background with glossy finish, in a 17x25mm piece. Set in sterling silver, accented by rough AMETHYST, the pendant is 1.25 inches long overall on ring suspended from 16 inch chain.
