This is a rich style of earthenware pottery by Jon and Barbara Mehr. Some pieces have red clay exposed with partial glazes in deep blue or green. Other pieces have mirror-like glazes in dark browns and black on porcelain, a style called "Tenmoku". All pieces are individually thrown on the potter's wheel in Northern California, are lead-free, and are totally watertight/functional.

These two vases are of similar shape, but with variation in size and flare opening we have two different effects.   Blue vase on left stands 15 inches tall, 8 x 8 around.   Green vase on right is 12-1/2 tall, 6-1/2 around.

Rich, elegant and graceful, this porcelain vase in Tenmoku finish is a flattened-round shape we call a paddle.   Stands 15 inches tall, 10 x 6 around.

TENMOKU...white porcelain pottery with mirror-like glazes in dark red-brown drizzled from the top with black-brown.   The style originates from a monastery in China, brought to Japan in 1228.

This classic vase shape has an extra wide flar on top, making it quite interesting.   The black of the interior is as much a part of the piece as the outside glazing.   Stands 12 inches tall, 6 x 6 around.
